I am currently a full professor and scientific director of the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the University of Groningen, where I also obtained my undergraduate (1995) and graduate degree (2000; Cum Laude). After my graduate studies,  I held a short post-doctoral position at the University of Manchester (2000). I moved to the California Institute of Technology in 2000, where I stayed for 2.5 years, and kept a visiting Fellow status until 2004. In late 2002 I became the Institute Fellow at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, before moving back the Kapteyn Institute in early 2004 as faculty member.
